Lan Fong Yuen, which is located in Central, is a Dai pai dong with long history in Hong Kong. To enjoy local Hong Kong food, Chinese restaurant is not the only option for Hong Kong citizens and tourists. Dai Pai Dong has been very popular in Hong Kong since 1950s. As Sheung Wan and Wan Chai were the birthplace of Dai Pai Dong in the early, Lan Fong Yuen, the one of the Dai Pai Dong in Sheung Wan, contains the original culture of Dai Pai Dong. It is a type of open-air food restaurant, which contains a unique local culture of Hong Kong.

 

Our recommendations:

Since Hong Kong government takes action because of the poor hygienic environment in Dai Pai Dong. The government stops issuing the new licenses. As a result, the owners of Dai Pai Dong die in this period, it may disappear immediately.

 

And why we choose Dai Pai Dong? It is because Dai Pai Dong is the collective memory of Hong Kong people since the 1950s. Also, it is one of the representative images of Hong Kong local restaurant. Many Hong Kong people were eating the food from Dai Pai Dong while they grew up. Meanwhile, it features a unique local food culture, the customers may taste the traditional flavor. By the way, many people are concerned about Dai Pai Dong’s future because it could disappears swiftly. As a result, stimulating the public concern and raising the awareness are the major factors to preserve Dai Pai Dong. The government support is necessary to Dai Pai Dong for continuing operation. As a result, Hong Kong may keep the unique local culture.
